Saturday City Stroll

Giralda Tower in the background

Cathedral with its Moorish Tower, the Giralda.

Gardens of Museo de Bellas Artes - we went to see the Gauguin and Van Gogh exhibition. The name of the exhibition was a bit misleading when there was only one portrait by Van Gogh and one painting by Gauguin in the whole exhibition, and the rest were works of Spanish artists. Van Gogh and Gauguin were apparently good friends, and Van Gogh cut off his ear after an argument with Gauguin.

At Plaza del Salvador. Church (el Salvador) under refurbishment.

At the entrance of the Real Alcazar, which is an ancient group of palaces now used as the Spanish Royal Family's residence when they are in Seville.
Explored Barrio Santa Cruz - once home to Seville's Jewish population. It was like a maze with all the narrow streets and quaint little shops and tapas bars.

Watched the Saturday parade near the Giralda. The parade floats are carried by teams of 36 to 48 professional costaleros such as these men with funny head wear. The ones we saw were all pretty big guys. I guess they had to be given the weight of the floats.

Night view of the bull ring - Plaza de Toros. It was a shame we didn't get to see a bull fight when we were in Seville. All the tickets were sold months ahead. There were scalpers at the door but Garry refused to be ripped off by them.
