Acropolis, Athens

Sat (11 Aug 07) - We arrived in Athens at 5am and slept in the airport for an hour whilst waiting for the metro to start running. We weren't the only ones camping at the Athens airport. There were others who were a lot more prepared than us, they even had their sleeping bags on the floor. I took this shot of the sky on the train from the airport to the Acropolis. Not too bad, considering how dead I was in the morning (I'm learning from Klinkers, the master photographer, he should be proud!!)

Lots of stray dogs in Athens

Fifth century Parthenon temple - the controversial "Elgin Marbles" (Greeks prefer to call them the Parthenon Marbles) were a series of stones that once formed the internal frieze. In 1816, Lord Elgin, British Ambassador to Athens, somehow got hold of them and sold them to the British Museum. If you go to the British Museum today, you will be able to see these Elgin Marbles which Greeks insist should be returned to the Parthenon.

Theatre of Herodes Atticus

I took this shot for Deb!!!

The Erechthelon, another temple on the Acropolis

Mount Lycabettus in the distance
