In search of the Mermaid.....

too much work....
.....let's just sit on it!!
Rosenborg Palace

Garry in the firing line

Danish bride

Took us half a day to find this miserable looking mermaid which was created to commemorate Hans Christian's story of the Little Mermaid. The head of this mermaid has been decapitated a few times already.

Deb bought some sugar coated peanuts from the Danish lady in the little wooden stall.
Amalienbourg Palace - where the Danish Royal family comes out on the balcony to meet the public
Got told off by this guy for standing too close to him!
Nyhavn Canal
Giant anchor

Giant squashed can
The world's tallest man

Dinner time - we went to a quiet place for dinner but by the time we finished our time, the restaurant was packed full of partygoers. We only realised after that it was a pretty happening bar when people started turning up in their limos just as we were retiring for the night.

Christianshavn and Church of our Saviour

Sun (26 Aug 07) - We went to Christianshavn, a self-governing "free town" established in 1971 on the site of a military barracks as an alternative to mainstream culture. The government has recently cracked down on long-standing activities such as the open use of drugs. We were told not to take photos of the central "Pusher Street" (where the drug trades used to operate).

Vor Frelsers Kirke / Church of our Saviour. We climbed the 400 steps to the top of the spire of the church for panoramic views of Copenhagen. The last steps are on the outside of the spire.

Start of our climb

At the top of the church

Holding on for dear life - it was pretty scary outside the spire especially with the winds blowing.

Found a famous Danish patisserie on our way back from Christianshavn

Our reward after climbing 400 flights of stairs!

Carlsberg Brewery, Copenhagen

Sun (26 Aug 07) - We headed to the Carlsberg Musuem & Brewery. The tickey guy insisted we were all MBA students and let us in at student concession prices. Each admission ticket came with two free beers too. That was probably one of Galv's happiest moments!

Carleberg makes a famous elephant beer.

Carlsberg stables

They used to deliver crates of beer using these trucks.
With our free beers!
All smiles...life just can't get better than this!

Too happy...can't even get his sunnies right!

Chinese buffet restaurant at Tivoli

Mon (27 Aug 07) - shopping in town (though I think secretly Galv and Gaz were happy just staring at Gisele the whole day)
