St Marguerite Island

Sun morning (6 May) - We took the boat to St Marguerite Island to see Fort Royal, where the Man in the Iron Mask was imprisoned for 11 years. The mask was apparently destroyed in a fire. More than 60 names have been suggested for "the prisoner whose name nobody knows, whose face nobody has seen, a living mystery, shadow, enigma, problem" (Victor Hugo). A popular belief is that the Man in the Iron Mask was Louis XIV's twin brother.

A new boat yet to be named - would be nice if we were able to christen the boat!

"F-U-N" (Max, your "N" is looking a bit funny...hehehe)
Prison cells
These wild flowers were really pretty. I was hoping to see some wild French lavendar but didn't see any.

Well and water storage tanks previously used by the prison.
