Garry's Char Kway Teow

Sunday (25-03-07) - Garry was very proud of his fried kway teow, and I kept saying that it wouldn't turn out because he had never cooked it before. It was more a "Galvin thing". But it tasted really good, on par with the kway teow we had at Selfridges.

Slightly disadvantaged - no proper flame, we only have an induction stove, and no fresh clams (just frozen ones). Wonder how Galv's kway teow turned out, he was supposed to be cooking the same thing too. Galv and Garry spent hours in Chinatown by themselves on Saturday, apparently they were exploring every Chinese grocery store. They have also found a new challenge- to try every single Chinese resturant in London before they leave.

Enjoying the fruits of Garry's labour (but mind you I did the washing after). Finally found some good chilli sauce - spot the Singapore Yeo's chicken rice chilli sauce! It's very difficult to find good chilli sauce in London, we've gone through a few crappy ones, but of course there's always the ever reliable chiu chow chilli oil.

Cafe de Paris, Picadilly Circus

Sat (24-03-07) - Lillian organised dinner at Cafe de Paris to celebrate Andrew's last night in London. The Cafe de Paris has been around since 1924 and was a favourite haunt of Princess Margaret, The Aga Kahn and Grace Kelly.

At about 10pm this dining hall converts into a dance floor/night club.

Live jazz music - was told by the waiter that this jazz singer has been singing the same songs every Saturday for the past couple of years, and his songlist is probably limited to only 5 songs or so .

Gaz, me, Cath, Galv, Lucas, Andrew, Caroline and Lillian. Garry made the mistake of ordering the most asian meal in a Western restaurant - steamed sea bass on a bed of hokkien noodles - apparently indomie would have tasted ten times better, but my rosemary lamb cutlets were pretty good.

Galv said it was the most Western meal he ever had since he arrived in London, and he was brave enough to try the foie gras, of course, he had to finish off his mains with a Chinese touch by ordering roast suckling pig (but obviously he didn't get a whole pig like the ones you see at Chinese weddings).

UN Building - completed in 1936 and covering the same surface area as Castle of Versailles.

Promenade du Lac

Walking along the Promenade du Lac - it was nice and sunny. Garry spotted lots of interesting plants along the way.

Spot Soo, Adrian and me in the distance...on a mission to find lunch.

Le Je d'Eau - tallest fountain in the world and the most famous attraction in Geneva

Garry playing with his macro function on the camera again!

Giant chess set - better let the wife win, Garry!

Finally found a nice Italian restaurant serving lunch. Funny but a lot of the restaurants were closed on Sunday. When we first got to this restaurant, we were practically the only ones but by the time we finished ordering, the whole restaurant was packed...must be our distinguished presence (or perhaps because it was only restaurant serving lunch at the end of the promenade). Took a picture of the giant chorizo pizza (with an egg in the middle) specially for Denning!

Geneva Old Town

Sunday (18-03-07) - Exploring the Old Town in the morning.

Garry and his obsession with flowers!

Exploring Chamonix

Saturday (17-03-07) - a lazy stroll in the village as we whine and moan about the pain from skiing.

Garry and his arty shots....

Powda Action!

Skiing at Servoz - at the bottom of Mont Blanc

We started off on the nursery slope.

Garry, Soo & Adrian graduated from the nursery slope very quickly. A shot of them before they came down the really steep icy slope. Crazy Garry skiing in a T-shirt! (as Denning would put it in Hokkien: "Lansi"). Poor thing, came tumbling down in his T-shirt and scratched his arms......

..............but still smiling!

Wimpy me stuck to the baby slope....see the baby in the background going up the baby slope in a ski "lift"

Me going up the baby slope......

........and coming down the baby slope.

Chamonix Mont Blanc

Arrived at Chamonix - took some "before ski" shots when we were still full of energy.

Big continental breakfast before we hit the slopes!

People soaking in the sunshine outside this French pub. It was quite nice and warm in Chamonix.

Garry's Dilemma - the "C" class or the "C" RV?

The new model C-Class Merc unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show.

Garry has already been shopping for his new car next year, but he can't decide whether to splurge on a C-Class or to be good and stick with his CRV.

One of my favourites - the Mercedes Bluetec. I love the paint on this car and it's also Mercedes' first "green" (ie. environmentally friendly) car.

Yes Garry, be good and stick to the CRV! (latest model of the CRV on display)

Out of our league - but this white Maserati looks pretty cool.

A car show is never complete without the red Ferrari.

Ended the car show with a nice dinner back at the hotel. Well, it was nice until Adrian spotted a little bug stuck in his artichoke.
